The Office of Public Health, Region 5, announced today it is temporarily relocating services and staff from the Jefferson Davis Parish Health Unit in Jennings to the health unit in Allen Parish. The temporary relocation is being done to allow for maintenance, inspections and repairs at the facility.

The health unit is owned by the Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury but is staffed by the Department of Health’s Office of Public Health. The Office of Public Health is in communication with the Police Jury to determine a timeline for completion of the maintenance work and any subsequent repairs.

The health unit provides various health services, including:

  • Reproductive health clinics (family planning and STD/HIV prevention and care),
  • Tuberculosis testing and treatment,
  • Immunizations,
  • Vital records,
  • WIC (Women, Infants and Children) nutrition services, and
  • Sanitarian services.

Until the health unit reopens, residents can access these services, except for Sanitarian services, at the Allen Parish Health Unit or any other health unit in the state.  Plans are being developed to continue Sanitarian services at another Jennings location.

The health unit in Allen Parish is located at 145 Hospital Drive in Oakdale, Louisiana. The phone number for the Allen Parish Health Unit is (318) 335-1147.
